Trinidad. The Pitch Lake is one of the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world, estimated to contain 10 million tons. It is located in La Brea in southwest Trinidad, within the Siparia Regional Corporation. The lake covers about 100 acres and is reported to be 250 feet deep. Pitch Lake is a popular tourist attraction, that includes a small museum, from where official tour guides can show you the lake.

Greenland. On 8 April 1941, the United States occupied Greenland in order to defend it against a possible invasion by Germany. After the end of WW2, the United States wished to keep the island for strategic reasons and offered $100,000,000, but Denmark refused to sell.

From garbage. Sea glass beaches are created from years of dumping garbage into an area of coastline. Sea glass begins as normal shards of broken glass that are then persistently tumbled and ground until the sharp edges are rounded.

Volcano eruption. The city was covered with pyroclastic flow, consisting of superheated steam and volcanic gases, with temperatures exceeding 1,075 °C (1,967 °F). One of the survivors was held in an underground cell in the town's jail.

Corfu is the second largest of the Ionian Islands, west of Greek Peninsula. It was long controlled by Venice, which repulsed several Turkish sieges, before falling under British rule following the Napoleonic Wars. Corfu was eventually ceded by the British Empire and unified with the modern Greece in 1864.

UTC+14. Time zones range from UTC-12 to UTC+14. UTC+14 stretches as far as 30° east of the 180° longitude line and creates a large fold in the International Date Line. In Kiribati (UTC+14), the local time is the same as in Hawaiʻi (UTC−10:00), but the date is one day ahead. It is also 26 hours ahead of Baker Island (UTC−12:00).

In the Bahamas. It is known that Columbus arrived on an island in the Bahamas (he named it San Salvador), but for centuries historians debated on which island that really was. The captain's log doesn't give much information: large, beautiful island, with a lagoon. Today, there is a general consensus that it was an island in the Bahamas, named San Salvador in 1926 to match the name given by Columbus.

Indigenous Australians. Although Madagascar is only 230 km away from Africa, the old African people didn't like to go deep in the sea. The first people who actually have reached Madagascar were Austronesians from Borneo around 500 BC.

Tupinambarana. lha Tupinambarana is the name of a former fluvial island bordered by rivers of the Amazon system in eastern Amazonas, Brazil. Today, it has been split into four completely separate parts by natural channels, just like those isolating it from the mainland—it is no longer one island, but four. The original island stretched from the municipalities of Parintins, in the northeast, to Nova Olinda do Norte, in the southwest. The combined area of the islands is to 11,850 km²

Runit Island, Enewetok Atoll. In 1977, the United States military began decontamination of Enewetak and other islands. During the three-year, $100 million cleanup process, the military mixed more than 111,000 cubic yards (85,000 m3) of contaminated soil with Portland cement and buried it in an atomic blast crater. Today, a concrete dome covers the material.
