Where was Gabriel García Márquez from?
Gabriel García Márquez, one of the greatest novelists of the 20th century, was born 6 March 1927 in Aracataca, a small town in Colombia. Some of his works are set in a fictional town called Macondo, mainly inspired by his birthplace. On his death in April 2014, Juan Manuel Santos, the President of Colombia, described him as "the greatest Colombian who ever lived".
