The most difficult fire riddles

So far the Olympic Flame went out 5 times. In 1976 in Montreal the fire went out due to intensive rain. In Athens in 2004 the flame went down on the historical stadium of 1896. During Beijing Games of 2008 it was gone due to "technical issues". During the relay to London in 2012 the flame got extinguished on a boat. On the relay to Sochi in 2013 fire went out at Red Square of Moscow.

The death toll is traditionally thought to have been small, as only six verified deaths were recorded. This reasoning has recently been challenged on the grounds that the deaths of poor and middle-class people were not recorded.

The Class D fire use combustible metal as its fuel source. Examples of such combustible metals include titanium, magnesium, aluminum, and potassium. To extinguish a Class D fire, use a dry powder agent. This absorbs the heat that fire requires to burn and smothers it as well.

The Falles is a traditional celebration held in commemoration of Saint Joseph in the city of Valencia, Spain. The term Falles refers to both the celebration and the monuments burnt during the celebration. The Falles festival was added to UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage of humanity list on 30 November 2016.

In zero gravity, no convection occurs, that normally shapes the flame, disperses CO2 and brings fresh air to the wick. Without convection, CO2 from combustion does not disperse as readily and tends to smother the flame

St. Elmo's fire is a form of plasma. The electric field around the object in question causes ionization of the air molecules, producing a faint glow easily visible in low-light conditions. Conditions that can generate St. Elmo's fire are present during thunderstorms, when high voltage differentials are present between clouds and the ground underneath. The nitrogen and oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere cause St. Elmo's fire to fluoresce with blue or violet light; this is similar to the mechanism that causes neon lights to glow

The shape of the flame is created by convection under normal gravity conditions. Without gravity, no convection occurs and the flame becomes spherical.

The water, fire blanket and carbon dioxide fire extinguisher cannot be used for extinguishing magnesium fires. Burning magnesium is usually quenched by using a Class D dry chemical fire extinguisher, or by covering the fire with sand to remove its air source.
