Near the volcano. It is sometimes mistakenly believed that diamonds are made from coals. High pressure and heat is required for the formation of diamonds from carbons, but these carbons are not the ones that form coal. Diamonds are formed deep under the surface and are brought up during outbreaks of volcanoes.

12,000. The Great Smog of London was a severe air-pollution event that affected the British capital in early December 1952. The contemporary estimates put the number of fatalities at 6,000, however, the more recent research suggests that it was twice as many, at about 12,000.

Lignite (brown coal). Coal forms when the dead plant matter is converted into peat, which in turn is converted into lignite, then sub-bituminous coal, then bituminous coal, and lastly anthracite.
