Camels facts

In Southern Siberia. The wild form of the Bactrian camel live in remote regions of the Gobi and Taklamakan Deserts, migrating from the desert to rivers in Siberia during winter.

In Australia. The domesticated form occurs widely in North Africa, South Asia and the Middle East, but the only population in the wild is in Australia. Dromedary camels were brought over by the early colonizers as pack animals. They became redundant with the arrival of motor transport, and today's feral herds are their ascendants.

Fat. Camels can live without water for many days. They don't sweat, and don't lose water in their excrement. Camels drink seldom, but they can drink 100 litres of water in 10 minutes.

Camel. The llama is a domesticated South American camelid. The genera Lama and Vicugna are, with the two species of true camels, the sole existing representatives of even-toed ungulates, called Tylopoda.

Cama. A cama has been produced via artificial insemination at the Camel Reproduction Centre in Dubai. The first cama was born on January 14, 1998. The aim was to create an animal capable of higher wool production than the llama, with the size and strength of a camel and a cooperative temperament.
