The Palace of Fontainebleau is one of the largest French royal châteaux. It served as a residence for the French monarchs from Louis VII to Napoleon III. It is now a national museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Napoleon spent the last days of his reign at Fontainebleau, before abdicating there on 4 April 1814, under the pressure from his marechals.
