Completed in AD 113, the Trajan's Column commemorates Roman Emperor Trajan's victory in the Dacian Wars. Originally, a 4.8 m bronze statue of Trajan stood on the top pedestal, but this was replaced by a statue of St. Peter in 1587.

Located in Arlington Ridge Park, the war memorial is dedicated to all U.S. Marine Corps personnel who died in the defense of the United States since 1775. It was inspired by the iconic 1945 photograph of six Marines raising a U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.

The Dog on the Tuckerbox is an Australian historical monument and tourist attraction. The statue was inspired by a bullock drover's poem, "Bullocky Bill", which humorously describes a series of misfortunes faced by the drover, culminating in his food being spoiled by his dog.

In the years of splendor in Venice there was a law that allowed only one building to wear the name of the palace - it was the Doge's Palace, the residence of the rulers of Venice. The rich Venetian families lived according to this law in the so-called houses (Casa abbreviated Ca). Currently, most residences of Venetian patricians carry the word "palace" in their name, although there are exceptions and some Venetian monuments are still called according to old traditions, eg Ca'Rezzonico or Ca 'd'Oro. Over 100 survived to modern times.

The Rosetta Stone is an example of what is known as a “donation stele” and the decree on it proclaims the divine rulership of King Ptolemy V (as endorsed by the priesthood), details the tax exempt status of the resident priesthood, and concludes with the instruction that a copy was to be placed in every temple (inscribed in all three languages). The Rosetta Stone is a granodiorite stele, found in 1799, inscribed with three versions of a decree issued at Memphis, Egypt, in 196 BC during the Ptolemaic dynasty.

The Paris Codex is devoted almost entirely to Mayan ritual and ceremony and is one of three surviving generally accepted pre-Columbian Maya books dating to the Period of Mesoamerican chronology (c. 900–1521 AD). The codex largely relates to a cycle of thirteen 20-year k'atuns and includes details of Maya astronomical signs.

Glenn Herbert Gould (1932-1982) was a Canadian pianist who became one of the best-known and celebrated classical pianists of the 20th century. He was renowned as an interpreter of the keyboard works of Johann Sebastian Bach. His playing was distinguished by remarkable technical proficiency and capacity to articulate the polyphonic texture of Bach's music.

It is estimated that 5.5 million tonnes of limestone (quarried across the river), 8,000 tonnes of granite (imported from Aswan), and 500,000 tonnes of mortar were used in the construction of the Great Pyramid.

Only the Great Pyramid of Giza still exists. The other Wonders of the Ancient World were destroyed: two by fire, three by earthquakes. Existence of one of them is still debated.

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was torched by Herostratus in 356 BC and plundered AD 262 by the Goths. The three remaining monuments were destroyed by earthquakes. In the picture Taj Mahal.
