Oscar and Nobel Prize. He was the first person to be awarded both Nobel Prize and Oscar. He got the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925. Despite his disdain for Hollywood, Shaw also won the Academy Award for best written screenplay in 1938.

British archaeologist and military. Thomas Edward Lawrence, CB, DSO (16 August 1888 – 19 May 1935) was a British archaeologist, army officer, diplomat, and writer. He was renowned for his liaison role during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign and the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War.

Brazil. Dom Pedro II (1825 – 1891), nicknamed "the Magnanimous", was the second and last monarch of the Empire of Brazil, reigning for over 58 years. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, the seventh child of Emperor Dom Pedro I of Brazil and Empress Dona Maria Leopoldina. Pedro II steadfastly pushed through the abolition of slavery despite opposition from powerful political and economic interests

He shot himself. After years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness, Vincent van Gogh died at the age of 37 from a gunshot wound, generally accepted to be self-inflicted (although no gun was ever found).

Elvis Presley. Presley was introduced to karate by The Army, during his service in Germany. He included some karate moves in his live performances.

Literature. Winston Churchill was a prolific writer. Churchill received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for his numerous published works, especially his six-volume work The Second World War.

Edwin Hubble. In his younger days he was noted more for his athletic prowess than his intellectual abilities. He won seven first places in a single high school track and field meet in 1906. He also set the state high school record for the high jump in Illinois, and practiced amateur boxing.

He flew across the Mediterranean Sea. Roland Garros gained fame for making the flight from Fréjus in France to Bizerte in Tunisia. The following year, Garros joined the French army at the outbreak of World War I. Garros is sometimes erroneously called the world's first fighter ace. In fact, he shot down only four aircraft; the definition of "ace" is five or more victories.

Albert Einstein. 14 of March is celebrated on many schools and universities as both Pi Day and the birthday of Albert Einstein. One of the traditions is the 'Pi Pie' (pictured).

Newspaper publisher. James Gordon Bennett, Jr. (1841-1918) was publisher of the New York Herald. He sponsored many sport and exploration events, including the first tennis match in the United States and Henry Morton Stanley's trip to Africa to find David Livingstone. He established three Gordon Bennett Cups: for international yachting, for automobile races and for ballooning. The last one continues to this day.
