The In­ter­na­tion­al Bit­ter­ing Units scale, or simply IBU scale, is used to ap­prox­i­mate­ly quantify the bit­ter­ness of beer. This scale is not measured on the per­ceived bit­ter­ness of the beer, but rather the amount of iso-al­pha acids.
