The gharial (Gavi­alis gangeti­cus), also known as the gavial, and the fish-eat­ing crocodile, is a crocodil­ian of the family Gavi­al­i­dae, native to the northern part of the Indian Sub­con­ti­nen­t. It is harmless to humans.
