Galileo was even­tu­al­ly con­vict­ed by the In­qui­si­tion for house arrest and not af­fil­i­at­ed with the rest of Flo­rence, where he remained under the care of the Medici. He was buried in the church of Santa Croce in Florence (Foggia tomb of 1737).
