A hip­pocam­pus is a rather small struc­ture placed in the temporal lobe of the cerebral cortex of the te­len­cephalon. The hip­pocam­pus plays an im­por­tant role in the transfer of in­for­ma­tion from the short­-term memory to the long-term memory.
