It is a measure of the disorder or ran­dom­ness in a closed system. The second law of ther­mo­dy­nam­ics states that if isolated ther­mo­dy­nam­ic system spon­ta­neous­ly evolves into another state of equi­lib­ri­um, its entropy will always in­crease. The term was invented by Rudolf Clau­sius.
