Both squids and oc­to­pus­es have blue blood. They use an oxy­gen-­car­ry­ing molecule in their blood called hemo­cyanin that contains copper. In cold con­di­tions with low oxygen pres­sure, hemo­cyanin oxygen trans­porta­tion is more ef­fi­cient than he­mo­glo­bin oxygen trans­porta­tion.
