1949 ended strict oc­cu­pa­tion of Germany by WWII allies. The fol­low­ing states formed: Federal Republic of Germany of British, French and American oc­cu­pa­tion zones, German Demo­crat­ic Republic in Soviet oc­cu­pa­tion zone, and Saar Pro­tec­torate ad­min­is­tered by French Re­pub­lic. The least one even par­tic­i­pat­ed in 1952 Olympic games of Helsinki despite presence of united German East­/West team.
