During its life the Nobel es­tab­lished a lot of com­pa­nies which turned into cor­po­ra­tions and still are playing the major part in the global economy, for example Imperial Chemical In­dus­tries (ICI). In his last will he set aside the bulk of his estate to es­tab­lish the Nobel Prizes, to be awarded annually in the fields of physics, chem­istry and phys­i­ol­o­gy or medicine. Prizes are also awarded for lit­er­a­ture and peace.
